DE(CENTRAL)ISED
WHAT IS DE(CENTRAL)ISED FESTIVAL?

An experimental project prototyping futures of decentralised systems. What will happen to cultural systems when our technologies are all de-centralised?

We have been acting as a de-centralised collective, using experimental methods to make de-centralised film and ask the question of what de-centralised films might look like.

It all started with a sandwich.
And 8 other sandwiches.
Nonce + Data = Hash, an encrypted packed in version of the data, an algorithmically generated unique code. You’re unique & special. Like voldemort horcruxes which contained copied versions of his soul, all needed to be destroyed to kill him. Blockchain is much the same but with millions of horcruxes.

Using this knowledge we experiment with creating other things, systems, structures, storytelling. These things relate to there things, that relate to more things. In turn, creating decentralised narratives, built up on things.

These narratives then go on to become part of a broader de-centralised structure. We also de-centralise the roles involved in traditional hierarchical embedded structures of the film industry. By swapping, sharing, uprooting etc etc we are able to prototype new ways of making film.
In a world of possibly decentralised and distributed futures, what will films & film festivals become? Our methods seek to understand and prototype this uncertainty.

Extrapolating one aspect of a decentralised future naturally feeds into other parts of this new reality. By focusing on culture and film we can explore one of the more interesting areas of de-centralisation, divorced from banks and healthcare systems.
